Wal-Mart brought all of the area department heads to the Monticello, Arkansas Chamber of Commerce for a meeting today (June 11th). The meeting was mandatory. When everyone came into the meeting room, there was a big screen TV playing a message from Wal-Mart. The video on this screen warned everyone against voting for Democrats or Barack Obama, because they are pro-Union. The meeting was supposed to last two hours. It was shut down in 45 minutes because all hell broke loose. These backwoods Brown Shirts can not use their position as employers to coerce employees into voting their political agenda. Workers are supposed to be able to vote according to their own conscience. They should be free from undue influence by their employers. This is the United States of America and we will not put up with this!!!!

Coincidentally, unions tell their members how to vote every election but no one has a problem with that.

I don't know who you would define as "no one," but I would have a problem with unions telling me how to vote. If I belonged to a union and I didn't like what was going on at a meeting, I would get up and walk out. I don't like that anymore than someone misusing their position as an employer to try to coerce people into voting a certain way. The difference is, this meeting was mandatory; attendance was required as a condition of employment. Whether you are for Obama or not, this tactic was uncalled for. I wonder if they would have had the same meeting if Hillary had been nominated? That would have been interesting. After all, she once sat on Wal Mart's Board of Directors.

Whatever the intent of the organizers was, it backfired. They were not prepared to handle the firestorm they created. The meeting was quickly adjourned. They never began the meeting's published agenda. Their "unofficial" business got in the way. This was very counterproductive. I hope they learned something from their foolish mistake.

Ike brings this up with good intentions, as is my response.

The DNC has a deal with the American Labor unions pertaining to political favors, funding and backing.

The DNC would back a bill abolishing confidential union voting, which would intimidate workers into voting pro-union, for fear of black-balling (which would not happen, I know from experience, the union can not force employers to fire someone based on votes, and if they tell you that, they are lying)

Among other things as stated in Pauls "Your next President," thread.

Look at them carefully, and also be aware that the Union DOES tell it's clients who to vote for, and be aware that Wal-Mart, contrary to most corporations, donted MORE to the DNC this year, than the GOP.

Ike is right, Unions do tell you who to vote for, but it's to guarantee your job supposedly, where there are no guarantees in Life.

In the past I never voted for anyone that the union told me to vote for, I voted who I wanted to vote for, even if we lost the contract.

If you want to vote for barack obama, go for it, even though i'm a democrat, I hate that phucker! Yes it's because he's muslim

You want to know something else, Unions also help illegal immigrants to stay in the usa by becoming members?

I don't recommend any Unions helping illegals for the sake of more members, (being that I am Pro-Union), but against any Unions that help illegals stay in the USA, without them being citizens or paying taxes. In this case any union that is helping any illegals will feel my wrath!.

why does it matter what your employer tells you? you were supposed to get 2 hours pay for sitting in a room doing nothing, and how are they going to know who you voted for anyways?

Hmmmmm, this is interesting: http://wallsforcongress.com/dominicks.asp

Isn't Domincks the low paying, barely over minimum wage, UFCW strangled, Safeway owned chain?

How is what Wal-Mart did wrong, but when Safeway and Domicks...UFCW SHOPS...Do it, it's OK?

If they tell you who to vote for, don't you think it's fixed?

That's why I always found out what all the candidates running for office did, Their track record or such, and then made a decision. Otherwise it would be a waste of effort.

And to think that Union members pay dues , which later can claim on their taxes and get all their money back,

But in this case Who's money is walmart actually using to fly all these people, or drive them in to arkansas? The Associates Right?

Yeah, And that's Fair?.

*SIGH*

You can't claim union dues on your tax return.
You are paying for a service, like paying for an attorney, or accountant.

The meetings were held localy, and associates were paid, on the clock, to attend, and WM pays mileage.

But the point is; Wal-Mart did not tell people who to vote for, just warned them of the possible affects or aftermath, of a Dem win, in a way that will affect WM, and, it's associates.

They did not, however, greet their associates with a huge McCain banner, not do they advertise politics on their web-site, like Domonicks/Safeway, a UNION company.

If WM is guilty of anything, Safeway and the UFCW have already been convicted.

I also love how U4W thinks tax write offs work.

You don't get your money back you idiot, you just don't get taxed on that money as income.

For instance if you wrote of $1000 in union dues you are not getting $1000 back.

Let's say you are single and make around 30K a year, you would only get $150 of the $1000 you spent in union dues back on your taxes.

go and get your GED man and learn something about the world
